Domain Authority (DA)

A search engine ranking score that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search results, scored from 1-100.

What is Domain Authority?

Domain Authority (DA) is a metric developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). Scores range from 1 to 100, with higher scores indicating greater ranking potential.

How DA is Calculated

DA considers multiple factors including:

  • Number and quality of backlinks
  • Linking root domains
  • MozRank and MozTrust scores
  • Overall link profile health

DA Score Ranges

  • 1-20: New or small websites
  • 21-40: Growing websites with some authority
  • 41-60: Established websites with solid backlink profiles
  • 61-80: High-authority sites
  • 81-100: Industry leaders (Google, Facebook, etc.)

Important Notes

DA is not a Google ranking factor—it’s a third-party metric. Focus on building genuine, quality backlinks rather than chasing a specific DA score. Similar metrics include Ahrefs’ Domain Rating (DR) and Semrush’s Authority Score.
